Presentation explains marketing

NMU students will get an opportunity on Monday, Nov. 19 to learn how marketing influences the world around them. Jess Cihak, marketing and promotions manager for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports, is hosting “A New Look at Marketing and Promotions” to demonstrate how the marketing world influences people’s daily lives. “Everything [from] what we eat, [to] what we wear or where we go is [influenced] by marketing,” Cihak said. At her job, Cihak helps coordinate sporting events and other events taking place in the Dome or the Berry Events Center. At the Skill Builder, students will also receive the basic outline of what Cihak does during events and learn about the planning process. “I want to give the students the opportunity to see the ins and outs of the buildings as well as my position,” added Cihak. At the Skill Builder, students will tour the Berry Events Center, PEIF and the Superior Dome. Students will also receive a brief outline on how to promote themselves through resumés and interviews. “College is about preparing you for the real work world, and that ties into the Skill Builder,” she said. Cihak added that this workshop will give her another chance to interact with students. “Any time I have the opportunity to reach out to students and ask why they do certain things and what they do in their free time and to see what the best ways of communicating with them [are], I take advantage of it,” Cihak said. To register for the Skill Builder, students can contact Janet Crick at 227-1771 or e-mail her at [email protected]. The Skill Builder will be held from 1-3 p.m. in the Izzo-Mariucci Room in the Berry Events Center.
