The Save the Wild U.P. organization will hold an auction and fundraiser on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The group hopes the event, subtitled “Our Way of Life, the Wild U.P.,” will raise awareness about the importance of the environment and the way of life in the Upper Peninsula. The benefit will also allow Save the Wild U.P. to continue its effort to protect the U.P.’s unique environment, said Teresa Bertossi, public outreach coordinator with Save the Wild U.P. “It’s important to protect the land in the Upper Peninsula. It’s important to our way of life, our camp life up here,” she said. The fundraiser will feature items related to the way of life in the U.P. Fred Rydholm, a local historian, will give a presentation. A slideshow display of antique, unique and restored Upper Peninsula photographs by Jack Deo of Superior View on Third Street will also be included. The fundraiser will include both a silent and live auction and door prizes. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the banquet room at the UpFront & Company. Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 per person and include a free drink and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Save the Wild U.P. office at 413 Third St. in Marquette, or at the door.
