The French Program and the Department of Modern Languages invites students to participate in a new way to learn about the French culture and the Francophone world.
Throughout the semester, there will be three requests for questions pertaining to the history or culture of France and/or the Francophone world, with the answer included. Each time, the person with the winning question will receive a $10 gift certificate to a local business. Students will then be able to submit answers to the winning question. From the correct answers, a winner will be chosen at random and will also receive a $10 gift certificate. The contest is not partial to NMU students; it is open to the entire community, including residents and high school students in and around Marquette County.
“The purpose of this contest is to engage the community in a fun and interesting way,” said Nell Kupper, who serves as faculty adviser to the French trivia contest.
Kupper added that in its second semester, the contest has received a huge response and become very popular.
“I have a very long list of people sending in questions and answers,” Kupper said. “Considering the success we’ve had so far, we are very encouraged to continue with it.”
To upload questions and answers go to the department of modern languages Web site, click on about us, and go to the French trivia contest link on the left. For additional information contact Kupper at 227-2648. Questions are now being accepted until Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
