Heroes of Homecoming battle for title

During Homecoming week at NMU, there are various competitions where student organizations can win points.

These competitions include Dead River Games, a sidewalk chalk competition, a stepping competition, King and Queen pageant and a float contest during the Homecoming parade.

Wednesday night, the King and Queen competition took place. There were two categories in which the contestants had to compete.

The first category was the costume contest. Participants had to dress up according to their interpretation of this year’s theme, Heroes and Villains, and explain why they chose their costume.

The second category was more formal, with the contestants dressed up in dresses and suits and answering questions about themselves and why they wanted to be this year’s Homecoming King or Queen.

Dwayne Perkins entertained the audience with stand up comedy while the judges tallied the ballots and came up with the winners.

Nick Bohn from Gant was named Homecoming King and Sarah Hwozdik was named Queen.

Runners up for Queen were Gabby Martin from Gant, Jackie Diekman from Meyland, Kevin Rush from the on-campus apartments and Cody Ross from Spooner.
