You’re never too old for Halloween

My favorite holiday growing up was surprisingly not Christmas, but Halloween. There was something about dressing up as my favorite Disney princess and getting as much candy as I could get that excited me.

After trick-or-treating, my siblings and I would go home and sort through our candy and the trading and bargaining began. I was not a fan of peanut butter candy, so I would trade it for something better, like Dots or Almond Joys.

I’ll admit that I went trick-or-treating all through high school. There was no age limit for it so I didn’t care what people thought. When I got to college, I stopped trick-or-treating and started handing out candy to the kids that came through West Hall and began the tradition of “Scream” movie marathon with my friends plus the occasional party.

This lasted until I turned 21 old. Then I started going to the bars. Yes, I dress up when I go out, but if you’ve ever gone out to the bars Halloween weekend, you know that everyone else does too. To quote “Mean Girls,” “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” Trust me, they do.

I enjoy dressing up in a costume and I love any reason to buy some candy to satisfy my sweet tooth. I don’t think anyone is ever too old for Halloween –– even parents.

Have you ever noticed that parents take their infants out on Halloween? Everyone knows that babies can’t eat candy, but people put candy in their Halloween bags any ways. I think the cuteness of the babies in their adorable little pumpkin or ladybug costumes distracts from that fact. I will be that parent.

Halloween can really be fun for everyone no matter how old you are. Anyone that says otherwise is probably just too afraid that to admit that they love Halloween as well. Thirty years from now, when I’m in my 50s, you can bet your sweet bippy that I’ll be the old lady that dresses up as a witch and scares all the kids.
