About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Campus mourns student

The NMU community is mourning the loss of NMU student Dillion Belden of Gwinn, who died July 18th, 2019 at his home. Flags will be lowered to half-staff today in remembrance of Belden.

Belden, 23, was a sophmore, majoring in finance and risk management and had been employed at Stenberg Bros. Inc. since he was 14.

Belden enjoyed lifting weights, mechanical work and was a talented artist, accord- ing to his obituary.
“NMU extends condolenc- es to Dillon’s family, friends and classmates for their great loss,” a campus-wide email sent out Wednesday, Aug. 28 read.

Anyone in need of counsel- ing services during this time of loss can contact the Dean of Students Office or the Counseling and Consultation Services at 227-2980.

“Dillion will be remem- bered by his family for his good heart, living life to the fullest [and] being good at be- ing good at everything he did and as a great son and broth- er,” his obituary read.
