R is For Refugee. On Thursday, Jan. 23rd, Refugee Outreach Collective Humanitas will be screening a virtual event for students to learn more about the importance of education for refugees, and the organizations work with the Global Classroom Initiative.
“This event allows us to explore both the impact that our communities can make on the educational environment of refugees as well as a chance for ourselves to gain deeper knowledge on why it is so imperative that education be accessible to marginalized groups, such as refugees,” said Cole Edgcombe, ROCNMU President.
The event is open to the public and is not limited to Northern’s students and staff. The presentation will consist of several experts who will be joining in the discussion via Zoom, where they will provide analysis and information on the importance of general education.
Another topic of conversation will be The Global Classroom Project, an initiative that the organization has started that provides refugees an opportunity to attain college credits.
“The only way to make a difference is to give a meaningful reason to change and we believe that this is meaningful. Each and every person in attendance will have already taken one step more than most do in an effort to educate themselves and, perhaps, change the way we view educational accessibility and refugees,” Said Edgcombe.
