The Northern Michigan University Women’s Soccer team traveled to Purdue University-Northwest (PNW) Friday, Sept. 14, and walked away with a 3-0 victory. The Wildcats then made their way to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UWP) on Sunday Sept.16 and played to a 2-2 draw.
A strong start to Friday’s game against PNW proved to be enough in the Wildcat victory. NMU scored in the 12th minute off the foot of sophomore forward Jenna Halonen for her second goal of the season. The Cats’ struck just eight minutes later, scoring twice in 20 seconds from freshman midfielder Caroline Halonen and another from J. Halonen to cruise to an easy 3-0 win.
Sunday’s matchup against UWP saw the Wildcat’s fall back on their heels early after an own-goal brought the score to 1-0 in UWP’s favor in the 9th minute. Northern tied the game in the 28th minute on a goal from freshman forward Taelor Moore. In the 83rd minute Parkside took back the lead, however, it didn’t last long when J. Halonen tied the game just a minute later. The game would head into extra time but neither team was able to score, with the match finishing in a 2-2 tie.
The Wildcats will play at home this week against Northwood University, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.
