Student Success Department hosts Majors Fair

The Student Success Department hosted a Majors Fair March 19, in the Northern Center. This event was open and free to all students at Northern.

The main goal of the fair was for students to explore programs at NMU and have one on one conversations with major department leaders, faculty, professionals and student organizations.

“It’s not very often we’re all in the same room,” Senior Success Advisor Tara Schafer said. “Take advantage of these events that the campus puts on and their resources.”

Schafer encourages students to reach out to build and maintain connections with leaders and members of the community. Seeing options and exploring them is the first step for students for their future.

For those students who are have not declared a major, the Majors Fair is an opportunity to learn more about their options and learn more about programs offered at NMU through meeting and talking with department heads.

“I’m unsure of my major at the moment so being able to talk to the faculty about my options and resources made the decision easier,” Sophomore Aubrey Huddleston said. “It was helpful to meet with those that work in the departments.”

Organizers suggest students who were not able to attend reach out to their success advisors, who have connections to all the student organizations, department heads and faculty that were present at the Majors Fair.

“There are some great experiences that the university provides for free and it’s a great place to network and build deeper connections,” Schafer said.
