Wildpups greet students with wagging tails and big smiles

Students walking into Jamrich Hall on Monday morning were likely taken aback by the number of people gathered in the common area until they took a closer look.

Surrounded by circles of people were dogs wagging their tails and rolling on their bellies as hands reached out to them from all directions.

A few times a month, the NMU Wildpups stop by campus for a few hours and provide animal therapy to passersby.

“I felt an instant serotonin boost,” Freshman Payshence Bruce said. “I was so excited to see and pet all of them.”

The Wildpups have notably left impacts on the students who spend time with them.

“I feel like the Wildpups are a crucial part of our student lives,” said Bruce. “I personally left feeling calm and less stressed, so I would hope other students feel the same way.”

Students can catch the Wildpups again on Thursday, Sept. 26, near the large common area next to Starbucks in Jamrich Hall from 5-6:30 p.m.
