The Black Student Union (BSU) brought a sweet touch to Jamrich Hall’s ticket booth with a bake sale on Thursday, Sept. 12, to publicly launch its recent rebrand.

The event, which featured an array of homemade treats, presented an opportunity for NMU students, staff and faculty to engage with the organization’s refreshed identity.

“This was a good time for us to re-launch ourselves to get back out there again,” BSU President MarLanaysia Rosser said.

“I hope it brings more people to our organization, whether that be a black individual or anyone, everyone is welcome, or getting more awareness for faculty, staff, anyone that works on campus,” Rosser said.

This event allowed students to not only pick up a sweet treat, but to also learn about the new BSU, featuring the organization’s impactful volunteer work on the horizon and its refreshed visions and values.

The funds raised by this event will go back to the organization and be used for group activities and outings and will aid BSU in its fundraising and volunteer work around the community.

BSU believes that a member should never be worried about finances. Bake sales and other fundraisers allow the organization to keep this a reality for all of its members.

“It is really a family away from your family on campus, and it was a great way for me to make friends and invite diverse groups here. It means a lot to me to be in BSU,” BSU Member Makayla Barker said.

Members of BSU are continuing to put themselves out there and make sure anyone, not just students and faculty, can have a second family and the ability to be a part of something bigger.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, BSU will host their Catnip Sock Material Donation Fundraiser. The group will be raising money in collaboration with UPAWS to create catnip toys for the kittens in the shelter. The group encourages any and all students to attend.
