Helmet night is an event where students can get a yellow hard hat and paint it while conversing with the NMU hockey players. Students are encouraged to wear their decorated helmets in the student section to continue the helmet tradition.

Copresidents Demetri Sarazin and Katie Johnson were members of the club prior to being elected and encourage any students who have a love for hockey or want to get involved more on campus to attend events and games.

“My favorite thing about tonight is every single person here has been able to talk to the players, get to know them on a level that’s not just a player out on the ice,” Sarazin said. “I think that what this event does is it bridges that gap between hockey team and community in a way that’s very impactful.”

Throughout the season the Puckheads will be present at the games encouraging not only the team but also the fans to come together in a larger collective.

“It definitely builds a really good community,” Johnson said. “I’ve also been a hockey fan my entire life, and nothing beats being in a student section at a college hockey game.”
