Tacky tourist vibes take over Lakeview Arena with themed open skate

Students gathered for the “Tacky Tourist Open Skate” on Nov. 8, embracing a lighthearted theme and making the Olson Rink a hotspot for vacation-inspired fun. The event hosted by NMU’s Special Events Committee invited students to dress as tourists, sharing where they would love to go on vacation and donning their quirkiest travel looks. The open skate ran from 4 to 6 p.m.

With only 72 pairs of rental skates available, some skaters brought their own gear to ensure they could enjoy the full two hours of skating.

“I had a lot of fun at Lakeview,” Junior Charles Walgenbach said. “I went for some free skating with my friends, and I had a fantastic time. And everybody there was super nice.”

The playful themed skate brought students together to kick back and enjoy a casual Friday on the ice.
