NMU’s Special Events Committee (SEC) hosted a Valentine’s Day open skate on Feb. 7, in the Lakeview Arena, Olsen Rink.
This event was a part of “My Way Friday,” an event where students can participate in activities all over Marquette to earn Northern Michigan prizes.
As this skating event was centered around the upcoming Valentine’s Day, and many popular love songs were played while NMU students skated for free.
Although Valentine’s Day is a holiday catered towards lovers, SEC Coordinator Tas Stoetzner encourages everyone to come to events like these.
“It’s always fun to have friends with who love you and just want to be with you,” Stoetzner said.
Anna Brackett, a student who attended the event, said she used this opportunity to teach her friends to skate. Using her six years of hockey experience she glided around the rink, laughing and spending quality time with her friends.
“I love any skating related events,” Brackett said. “I’ve been trying to get [my friends] to go ice skating with me for a very long time.”
The SEC will be hosting an Art on a Log (Paint and Sip) Event on Wednesday, Feb. 19, where students can paint on a wooden slab and enjoy mocktails with their friends and loved ones. For more information, go to the Hub.
