The Student Nurses Association (SNA) is hosting the Organ Donation Honor Walk at the NMU PEIF on Thursday, Feb. 13. This event gives the campus an opportunity to show support for those who have made a life-saving organ donation.
“This event is important and exciting because it is the first time our student organization has done anything like this,” said Sabrina Ferron, SNA vice president. “We are supporting a very important cause, and we feel it’s important to inform people about the impact of both donating and receiving organs.”
The honor walk will be thirty minutes of taking laps around the track in the Superior Dome. Participation in the event is free and those attending are encouraged to bring friends and family to further support the cause.
If you are looking for more information or need assistance at the event, SNA members will be wearing tie-dye shirts they made at one of their meetings in support of Gift of Life. The first 50 attendees will receive their own Gift of Life T-shirt to wear in support.
“The purpose of this event is, first and foremost, to honor those who have donated organs,” Ferron said. “It is also to inform the community about what Gift of Life does and how becoming a registered donor can impact many lives.”
The cause for this event is near and dear to the hearts of many students and community members. The members of SNA are looking forward to experiencing the university and community’s support firsthand.
Richard Jacobson, an organ recipient, will be at the event to share his story about how Gift of Life has impacted him and to answer any questions.
