Sorority members on Northern Michigan University’s campus use their baking skills to kickstart change in the community.
One of NMU’s sorority chapters. Alpha Gamma Delta, hosted a bake sale in the Jamrich ticket booth from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Feb. 11
The money from this event goes towards their philanthropy, or a charitable cause the chapter chooses to support. Each sorority chapter has a different philanthropy and Alpha Gamma Delta’s chosen cause is Meals on Wheels.
This event is a part of the group’s Week of Service where they can be seen around campus and the community hosting different activities to give back to the community.
Many members of the group join because of their community service efforts around the Marquette community.
“I really like the community service aspect of the sorority, and we’re also very academics focused which was a huge driving factor in joining for me,” Alpha Gamma Delta member Katie Whitney said.
The Alpha Gamma Delta members could also be seen out in the community volunteering at a tent in downtown Marquette at the U.P. 200 dog sled event on Friday, Feb. 14.
Those who couldn’t attend the bake sale but want to donate to Meals on Wheels through the sorority can Venmo donations to @rayven-jacobson.
