The Wildcat lacrosse team played a three-game stretch, recording two losses on the road and one win. The first loss was an overtime defeat against Quincy, followed by a win against Missouri Western, and ending with another loss to Maryville. This stretch resulted in a split record and included a new program record set by Josie Lakosky. She set the record for the most points scored in a single game, netting a total of seven goals, with six of them being in the first half against Missouri Western.
The team faced some tough conditions during their match against Quincy, playing in temperatures in the low 30s, winds up to 40 mph, and rain. The Wildcats fought hard and battled through a lot of back-and-forth action, with the score being tied up until the very end, sending the game into overtime.
Lakosky led the team in scoring with five goals. Taylor Priestley recorded her third career hat trick, scoring the game-tying goal before overtime. Goalie Zoe Montgomery made eight saves, setting a career high. This was the team’s first overtime loss of the season, with a final score of 14-13.
Following the loss to Quincy, the Wildcats remained in Quincy to take on Missouri Western, where they secured a win. Lakosky tied her single-game record of six goals within the first 30 minutes of play. Montgomery recorded another career high with 11 saves, and Emily Radke scored four goals of five shots on goal. The Wildcats outshot the Griffons 31-27 and collected 18 ground balls to Missouri Western’s nine. The team won 18-6.
In the final game of the stretch, the Wildcats faced some tough competition against Maryville, falling 18-4. Maryville is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation. Avery Lorinser scored two goals, and Montgomery once again met her career-high 11 saves. Lauren Esposito contributed eight saves during the game as well. The Wildcats were outshot 41-22 and committed 19 turnovers compared to the Saints’ 10.
The team has a single game this Saturday, March 15, at the Superior Dome against Lewis. Following that, the team will face off against Indianapolis in Allendale. The next stretch of games will be GLIAC matchups and will count towards the conference standings. The team’s current record is 4-2. Lacrosse has one of the shortest seasons of all sports on campus, with the team competing in just 17 games.
