The Wildcat lacrosse team traveled to St. Paul and St. Joseph, Minn., to compete in back-to-back games. The team faced off against both Concordia-St. Paul and the College of St. Benedict, where they ended in a split weekend. The team lost 13-9 against Concordia and won 15-4 against St. Benedict.
In the first game of the weekend, the team faced off against Concordia-St. Paul, where they were led by Josie Lakosky, who scored four goals. The team lost an early lead in the first quarter, giving up five goals. This was the third time this season the team allowed that to happen. The Wildcats gained a lead in the third quarter with a score of 8-6, but the next few points were unable to be blocked and lead to the 13-9 defeat.
The Golden Bears stayed on top when it came to scoring, with a 33-23 shot advantage over the Wildcats. The Green and Gold also had 21 turnovers, compared to Concordia’s 16.
The team took a quick trip over to St. Joseph the next day to compete against the College of St. Benedict, where they secured a 15-4 win. Lakosky led the team in scoring again, racking up an impressive seven goals and a double hat trick. Taylor Priestley followed behind with four goals. Lauren Esposito was in goal, recording five saves, alongside Zoe Montgomery, who had two saves.
The Wildcats outscored St. Benedict with 23 shots on goal compared to St. Benedict’s nine. They only had six turnovers in this game, compared to St. Benedict’s nine.
The game against Concordia was a GLIAC matchup, while the game against St. Benedict was non-conference. The team travels downstate to Allendale and Grand Rapids this weekend to compete in two conference games against Grand Valley State University and Davenport. These are two of the final four games of the regular season.
Their final games of the regular season are at home in the Superior Dome against Saginaw Valley and Concordia-St. Paul. The team will then compete in the GLIAC tournament.
