Earlier this week, the women of the NMU golf team headed to Grove City, Ohio, where the team competed in the ODU NC4K Classic. However, during the weekend, the men’s side of the team was supposed to play in the Bill Blazer Memorial. Unfortunately, the competition was canceled due to heavy rain and poor conditions.

The Wildcats were one of 16 teams that came to play in the ODU NC4K Classic.

The classic was played over two days, and each day the team played a different number of holes. On the first day, the team fought hard by playing 27 holes of competition. On the first day, the Wildcats shot +93, with a final score of  353, coming in the 16th place at the end of day one. The competition ranks both individual golfers and schools.

Three of the Wildcats were able to crack the top 50 of golfers during day one, playing all 27 holes. The three wildcats were Hailey Bolander, Maddy Martens and Maggie Pietila. Bolander was +10 in the first round, followed by Martens, whose final score for both day one rounds was +17, while Pietila was +19 to end day one.

On day two, the team was more relaxed as they were only playing nine holes. The second day of the competition proved successful for the Wildcats, who jumped three spots in the competition to 13th place with a score of +126.

Martens came in 42nd place individually, making her the highest-placed Wildcat in the competition. Martens’ teammates were right behind her, with Pietila coming in 48th place and Bolander finishing 55th.

The Wildcats are off until the end of April, when the team will head downstate to compete in the GLIAC Championships. The women’s GLIAC tournament will take place on April 25- 27, 2025. The men’s team will also be heading to the GLIAC Championships; however, the men’s competition will be held the weekend prior to the women’s. The men’s tournament will also take place downstate, April 18-20.
