The OLA Pavilion was bustling with students on Wednesday, April 16, as they came together to help support the NMU Conservation Crew in an hour-long campus clean-up event.

Students received supplies such as trash bags and buckets before heading out and getting started on cleaning up campus. The event brought students together through a shared commitment to sustainability and to keeping the campus neat.

“The club itself is good at getting people with similar interests and values together, and sometimes that can be hard for people to do on their own,” said Samantha Chaon, one of five co-leaders of the Conservation Crew.

With the snow finally melted, it offered the Conservation Crew and students an opportunity to tackle trash that was hidden by the winter months.

“We usually host a lot of trash cleanups throughout both semesters of the school year, and with the snow actually melted, it is a really good day to collect trash around campus,” said Taylor Kenyon, co-leader of the Conservation Crew.

Kenyon also emphasized the importance of being mindful when it comes to waste, and how students need to understand the impact it can have on the environment.

This event not only helped clean up the surrounding campus, but also showed how important it is for students to come together and work towards a collective goal on helping the environment. Altogether, they collected 43 pounds of trash.
