Two weeks ago I got to experience something amazing. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
It was in town on a perfect day, my 22nd birthday.
What many of you may not know about me is that I love a hot dog. Last year I had a hot dog-themed birthday where I had a hot dog-themed cake and of course we had hot dogs.
This year I wasn’t doing much for my birthday, it was on a Thursday, I had classes and even worse I had an exam. So instead of studying for my exam, I took a quick trip to Super One in Negaunee to check out the world’s largest wiener on wheels.
I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my first birthday post turning 21. I didn’t really know how to celebrate. I’ve been able to legally drink for a year now, so going to the bar was nothing new and my exam started at 6 p.m. I had no clue when I’d be out, so I didn’t know when to plan anything.
So my friend and I traveled up to Negaunee in between my classes to see the Wienermobile.
When we arrived, I was shell-shocked. It’s been a dream of mine to see this Wienermobile in real life. I’ve seen it in photos, and I’ve driven past one on the highway.
But in that moment I could touch it, and even hug it.
While there I met the two Hot Doggers who drive the Wienermobile. They arguably have my dream job.
After talking with them for a while, I was given a gift much sweeter than a birthday present or a birthday cake. I was given the honor of being crowned an honorary Hotdogger.
My certificate will be hung up among my diplomas— it’s that important to me.
Now this all may seem childish, as I am a 22 year old girl who is going crazy about a hot dog on wheels.
I’m not one for birthdays, I have some deep discrepancies with them. But this year, my birthday was remarkable over the smallest of things. ‘
Going to the Wienermobile was definitely the highlight of my birthday, and arguably the highlight of my month.
Seeing something so silly, and something I’ve always wanted to see was a small thing, but it was big enough for me. I got to spend time with two of my best friends, while having a grand old time laughing until our stomachs hurt right outside a Super One.
People always say don’t meet your heroes because you’re always let down, but I disagree. I guess my hero in some ways is the Wienermobile, but I definitely wasn’t let down when I saw it.
If you ever get the chance to see the Wienermobile, I highly recommend it, it’s even better when it’s your birthday and you have the spirit of a hot dog within you.
You can now refer to me as Mad Dogger Megan, because someday it may be me that brings smiles across peoples faces when they’re in a Super One parking lot.
