Women’s soccer comes to end after playoffs 

Wildcats, it was a wild run! Over the weekend, the NMU women’s soccer team competed in the GLIAC tournament, where they fell short in the semi-final match, cutting the season. 

The Wildcats went 1-1 in the tournament hosted at Grand Valley State University. After getting the first round win over the No. 4 seed Ferris State, 2-0, the Wildcats were feeling confident as they geared up to take on the No. 1 seeded team, Grand Valley, in the semi-finals.

In the game, Grand Valley came out strong on both sides of the ball while the ‘Cats missed shot after shot on the net. The Wildcats were down 2-0 going into halftime. 

Unfortunately, in the semi-finals second half, the Wildcats were unable to get the win over Grand Valley, cutting the season there. The team was unable to score against their rivals, falling 4-0 in the last game of the season while Grand Valley piled on more goals.

In her first season, Head Coach Erin Egolf led the team to the semi-finals in the GLIAC, coaching the team to a 6-6-2 conference record, with high hopes in the program’s direction.

The Women’s Soccer GLIAC Championship came to a close with Grand Valley taking the crown over Saginaw Valley. 

The Team also said goodbye to their seniors, who took the field for the final time this season with the loss. Seniors on the team this season were forwards Olivia Moreno and Hannah Kastamo, midfielder Kenna Alexander and defender Addison Wargo. 

The team will pick back up in the spring in preparation for the 2026 season.
