Create your own self-care plan before finals
December 7, 2022
Students can create their own self-care plan at the Build a Self-care Plan Skill Builder hosted by the Student Leader Fellowship Program this Thursday, Dec. 8 from 3 to 4 p.m. in TSB 2812 at the Northern Center.
Attendees can expect to learn the five different types of self-care and will have the opportunity to take an individual assessment to indicate how well they are doing in each of those areas.
Sarah Santiago, owner of Bloom Counseling and Wellness since 2018, will be leading the workshop. Santiago is a licensed professional counselor and helps college students cope with depression, trauma, grief, anxiety and self-esteem.
“A lot of people when I ask, ‘What do you think of when you think of self-care,’ and they often will say ‘bubble baths’ and ‘face masks,’ and while those can be a form of self-care, it’s really so much broader, complex, and also extremely necessary,” Santiago said.
The Skill Builder will end with everyone creating a detailed individualized self-care plan that they will get to complete over the next seven days following the workshop, Santiago said.
“What most people find is they are doing an amazing job in several areas but there are a few areas that they are oblivious to,” Santiago said. “We kind of talk about the importance of finding balance, because sometimes self-care is really hard and means doing things that we maybe don’t feel like doing or we don’t love to do, but we know in the end is going to help us feel our best.”
Students interested in attending can RSVP on the Hub.
