Local record show promotes community connectivity

Michigan Records is hosting Geoff and Jon’s Vinyl Record Show, a four-day event at the Ore Dock Brewing Co. in collaboration with NMU’s Vinyl Record Club. This is the event’s 11th year, running March 28-31 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

New and used records, cassettes, CDS, posters, books and t-shirts will be available for purchase at the event. The event’s organizer says cash is the preferred method of pay by the vendors. In addition, attendees are welcome to rehome or trade any music they currently own at the event.

“It’s bigger than just the [merchandise],” Event Organizer Jon Teichman said. “It’s an opportunity to connect with the Marquette community in a deeper kind of way, and a way to make memories.”

All ages are welcome to come to the show and enjoy events being held, such as live music played by The God Eaters and Liquid Mike Thursday night and New Nostalgia, featuring members of Bumpus, a band from Chicago, on Friday and Saturday. The will also host pop culture trivia on Sunday, which will be taking place at 6 p.m.

Teichman encourages community members to swing by the show, as there is something for everyone to enjoy. If not for the merchandise, then the experience of socializing with other music and pop culture lovers, each day will have something different than the last.

“You get to discover other people that like the same stuff you like, isn’t that just a gift,” Teichman said. “You can sit at home and look at things on your phone, but the idea of bridging and making these connections is the mission for us.”
