The Sustainability Hub for Innovation & Environment (SHINE) is hosting a movie night and clothing swap on April 4 at 5 p.m. The group will be showing the movie, “Why Plastics?” by Patagonia, and students will have the chance to swap clothes throughout the event.
“While learning about climate change and the effects it has on us and our Earth can feel heavy and disheartening, creating spaces where we can celebrate sustainability is liberating,” SHINE Social Media Communications Intern Mackenzie Geary said. “Whether it be big or small, it can serve as a reminder of the importance of the bigger picture that is climate action.”
Hosted in collaboration with Fashion Sustainability Intern Miki Rogers, the event is intended to be both relevant and entertaining. Fast fashion is an up-and-coming issue that many college students are interested in learning about.
“Whether you know a lot or only a little about fast fashion, there is also always something more to learn,” Geary said. “So, the hope with having a movie watch party and clothing swap happening simultaneously is to promote education and awareness but also action in a fun community-oriented way.”
Students can attend the event to watch the movie, swap clothing or both. Bringing clothes is encouraged, but not required, and anyone is welcome to participate.
