The Queers and Allies student organization hosted a bake sale on Oct. 17 in the Jamrich Ticket Booth. The club raised $290 that will fund events for members of the club.
“We plan on using the money for our annual Halloween party and Transgiving event,” Junior Shelby Goode said. “If there is money left over, we plan on putting it towards decorations and refreshments for our annual Queer Prom event in April.”
These events are essential for the club, because it gives its members a chance to bond with one another.
“[At the Halloween party] we typically do Halloween related crafts, eat treats and watch a fun movie,” Goode said. “Transgiving is an event scheduled before Thanksgiving break where we gather together, eat and have fun. This event’s purpose is to provide a sense of community, safety and belonging before a lot of us go home for a week.”
The Queers and Allies group plans on hosting fundraisers more often due to the success of this bake sale.
“Our first bake sale was around this time last year and we had a lot of fun with it,” Goode said. “We not only sold out within four hours, but we received a lot of generous donations. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us meet and surpass our goals.”
Lots of hard work went on behind the scenes to make the event succeed. Members collaborated to make baked goods and design posters to advertise the sale. Queers and Allies also reached out to ALLIES to help promote the sale, and the group decided to help out even further by donating baked goods as well.
Overall, club members were impressed with the turnout of the bake sale.
“We couldn’t have done it without our amazing community of hardworking people,” Goode said. “We want to thank everyone who stopped by and said hello to us at our bake sale. It was incredibly successful, and we are sincerely grateful to everyone who helped us out.”
