On Friday, Jan. 17, Northern WellBeing hosted a drop-in event for students to create their own vision boards, offering a unique opportunity to set goals for the new year with a crafty twist. Held in the commuter lounge, the event allowed students to get creative while setting personal and academic goals for 2025, all while waiting between classes.
A vision board is a simple yet powerful tool that helps individuals organize their goals, stay motivated and plan for success. For students, it can be a creative way to outline their ambitions for the semester, whether academic or personal. The WellBeing Center supplied all the materials for the event, so students only needed to bring their creativity and a clear idea of what they wanted to achieve in the new year.
“We have this event as part of our WellBeing programming, we are doing this to help students envision their year and to create goals that they have for themselves,” said Christina Kramer, a WellBeing pure educator.
Having a physical reminder of personal goals is a great way to stay on track and motivated throughout the year. A vision board serves as a daily reminder of one’s aspirations, keeping them focused and driven.
“As we are starting into the winter semester and in the new year, we think it is helpful to have a list of your goals and what you envision for your year … we just want to be there to help them. College is so stressful, especially for those who are in clubs and other groups on campus,” Kramer said.
The winter semester can be particularly challenging for students, with increased workloads and the dreariness of the weather. Engaging in a creative activity like making a vision board can serve as a refreshing break and even provide students with new décor to brighten up their spaces.
“I am a student myself and I love helping other students and connecting with other students, especially when it comes to wellbeing and mental health and doing these events, I think is a really good way to reach out to students especially those who don’t know about our resources,” said Kramer.
Events hosted by the WellBeing Center offer great opportunities for students to get out of their comfort zones with a new craft or activity. It is a unique way to meet and connect with other students whom you may not be able to interact with otherwise.
If you missed this vision board event, do not worry. The WellBeing Center will be hosting the grand opening of the ice rink on Feb. 1, where students can enjoy ice skating (with rental skates available) and warm up with hot chocolate.
For any questions or support, students are always encouraged to visit the WellBeing Center and take advantage of the resources available to them.
