The harsh winter of the Upper Peninsula is finally upon us, and that means a few things: snow, cold temperatures, harsh winds, and most importantly, the need for a warm, sweet treat or some coffee to welcome students into Jamrich after the harsh walk from a car or the dorms.

Tuesday, January 20th, the Student Leader Fellowship Program (SLPF) will be hosting a hot chocolate social from 8–10:30 pm to promote their upcoming recruitment season.

This will be a chance for students to help themselves to a winter treat with as many toppings as their hearts desire. Most importantly, this event will be an opportunity for students to mingle with current SLFP members and learn more about what it means to be a member. Students are welcome to grab a drink to-go or stay, socialize, and talk with SLFP members.

“The goal of this event is to raise awareness of SLFP, encourage students to apply, and create a welcoming space for connection over a cup of hot chocolate. It also gives current SLFP members, both first- and second-year fellows, the opportunity to share their personal experiences and highlight the many opportunities the program offers,” said Elsa Limberg, SLFP Program Coordinator.

SLFP, fundamentally, is a program that focuses on developing ethical, community-centered leaders. The fellows’ opportunities include a fall retreat, a two-credit leadership course, a community mentor, a Community Service Internship and a comprehensive workshop series otherwise known as Skill Builders.
