Sometimes, the best way to bring people together is through food. On a busy college campus where schedules rarely align and stress is always lurking, events that encourage students to slow down and connect can make a big difference. Studio House in Cedar Hall recently hosted a fundraiser that did exactly that, offering a laid-back environment where students could enjoy good food while supporting a larger purpose.

“I loved it! I think it’s a great way to get some funds for the house, and others can also enjoy it,” said one student, Nat Whitlock. “I would like to see more, especially when it comes to snacks!!”

The event, organized by Studio House, took place at the Lodge at 9 p.m. as a fundraising initiative. Students were invited to stop by, grab a quesadilla and support the organization’s ongoing efforts. The fundraiser aimed not only to raise money but also to foster a sense of community and visibility for Studio House. By hosting the event in an accessible campus space, the fundraiser made it easy for students to indulge between classes, work and other commitments.

Studio House is known for providing creative spaces and opportunities for students to explore media, production and collaboration. Fundraisers like this help sustain those resources while also reminding the campus community of what Studio House offers.

One of the strengths of the event was its simplicity. There was no pressure to stay for long periods of time or to participate in structured activities. Students could stop in, enjoy food, chat with friends and leave feeling like they contributed to something positive. This low-commitment format made the fundraiser approachable and helped draw in a steady flow of attendees throughout the event. And who doesn’t like a good quesadilla!

“I thought it was really cool to see so many people show up for it. As an RA, I know how much time and work it takes to plan events/fundraisers and it’s always nice to see students supporting other students.” Said attending RA Miguel Lopez.

Food has a way of pulling people together without trying too hard. On a college campus, grabbing something to eat often turns into an excuse to slow down, hang out and actually talk to the people around you. Food-centered events feel welcoming and low-pressure, which makes it easier for students to stop by, even if they’re just passing through. Whether it’s sharing a quick bite with friends or striking up a conversation with someone new, food helps create moments of connection that turn a regular day on campus into something a little more memorable.

Overall, the Studio House fundraiser highlights how creative and accessible events can strengthen campus life. By combining food, purpose and a welcoming atmosphere, the organization successfully brought students together for a shared cause. Events like this serve as a reminder that community building does not have to be complicated to be effective. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple idea and the willingness to invite people in.
