Queers and Allies is getting ready to hold the annual NMU Drag Show
NMU’s Queers & Allies to host annual Drag Show

The time for the annual Drag Show here at NMU is fast approaching! Northern Michigan University’s Queers & Allies will bring sparkle, celebration and community to campus with its 29th Annual Drag Show on Feb. 20, starting at 7 pm, highlighting what organizers describe as a powerful message of queer joy and resilience.

Hosted by Rachel Slurzz, this year’s show will feature performances by Aurora Gozmic, Judith Priest, Boy J, Novila LaRose and Sativa Diamond, who will be joined by backup dancers Tyler Meyer and James “Glamonster” Rabideau. Organizers promise an evening of high-energy entertainment, artistry and unapologetic self-expression.

For Queers & Allies president Abigail Strassburg, the event represents more than just a night of performances. “The purpose of this event has always been to positively highlight queer and drag culture and history,” Strassburg said. “This year especially, we want to highlight queer joy — that we are here to stay and thrive as the queer people we are.”

“It’s the culmination of months of work,” Strassburg said. “At the end of the day, this event shows that Queers & Allies will continue being loud and proud on this campus. We deserve a space to be our most authentically queer selves, and we will continue to make space for others.”
