College events are usually advertised as fun, but not all of them really get students involved. Some are easy to skip, especially during a busy week when everyone is tired, behind on assignments, or just trying to survive the semester. Still, every once in a while, an event comes along that actually gives students a reason to show up, hang out, and do something different for a change. Trivia Night was one of those events, offering a mix of competition, teamwork and a chance to test how much random information people somehow keep stored in their brains.

Trivia Night was hosted by the Special Events Committee and co-hosted with Dining Services on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wildcat Den at Northern Michigan University. Students were invited to compete in teams of two to four people for prizes and “ultimate bragging rights.” The event featured trivia topics ranging from pop culture to random facts, and it was designed to bring students together for food, fun, and friendly competition.

What made the event stand out was how simple but effective the idea was. Trivia does not need a huge setup or some over-the-top theme to get people interested. It works because it provides students with a way to interact without the pressure that can come with more formal campus events. Being on a team makes it easier for people to participate, and the variety of topics means almost everyone has a chance to contribute something. One person might know music, like which artist has the most Grammys, another might know movies, and someone else somehow knows every useless fact ever said out loud. That is kind of the whole point. Events like this give students a break from the usual school routine while still creating a strong sense of campus connection.

“I think the trivia night was such a fun experience! I liked how it was in the Den. I was able to eat dinner and enjoy a fun activity! It was the perfect amount of competitiveness. The prizes were good, but I honestly think they weren’t needed. It was that good,” said student Nat Whitlock.

Trivia Night also fits well with student life because it combines entertainment with social interaction in a relaxed setting. The Wildcat Den gave the event a casual atmosphere, which likely made it easier for students to feel comfortable joining in. Instead of sitting through something boring just because it is on campus, students had the chance to actually enjoy themselves while competing for prizes. That balance of fun and community is why events like this tend to get attention.

Overall, Trivia Night gave students a fun way to step away from school stress and spend time with others. With team competition, food, prizes and a wide range of questions, the event created an experience that was both entertaining and engaging.

“Everyone should have fun and maybe even learn some new fun facts tonight,” said Special Events Committee President Brooklynn Kluz.
