As students passed by Jamrich’s ticket booth, on Tuesday, Mar. 31, they would come across delicious baked goods made by members of NMU’s Sailing Team. The Sailing Team is one of NMU’s club sports that is open to everyone of any level of experience.

“Essentially what we do, we go out and sail, mostly in the fall and out in the lower harbor. We run practices and drills, and we essentially invite everyone who wants to try something new and have a great time,” Marco Constantini, NMU’s Sailing Team Commodore, said. “We travel around the Midwest, competing against many different schools, and we meet lots of fun new people while doing it.”

NMU’s Sailing Team was hosting a “Bake Sail,” with a plethora of baked goods to help raise money for sailing and regattas, which are boat races.

“The bake sale is raising money for our spring season of sailing, which, unfortunately, is quite short, since we can’t really sail much right now… But it’s also going to raise money for a few regattas. We have our next one’s coming up next week,” Constantini said. “We essentially need money for hotels, equipment and just regatta funds, or raise funds.”

As NMU is a student-focused campus, it encourages students to support their peers and clubs, such as Sailing Club, in raising the funding they need. To help support the sailing club outside of the bake sale, members advise to go to their donation page as well as to spread the word about their club.

“Outside of the bake sale, we do have a donation page on the NMU Rec Sports, as well as just spreading out the word that NMU sailing exists because Marquette is not known for the young sailor world. So, just getting the word out, like, ‘Hey, we’re here. We are welcome to take anyone at any experience level to try something out, and I guarantee you will like it,’” Constantini said.

At the end of the bake sale, the Sailing Club made $163, covering hotel expenses for the rest of the spring season.
