The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team competed at the Northwood Open on Saturday, but no team score was kept.
Danielle St. Onge placed third in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 12.92. Callie Boik (13.52), Vanessa Anderson (13.75) and Tiffany Ferrari (14.24) also ran in the event. Natalie Bertucci led the Wildcats in the 200m with a sixth-place showing in a time of 27.00. Boik (27.50), Anderson (27.81) and Ferrari (29.79) also competed for NMU in the event.
Maegan Hendershot was the lone ‘Cat in the 400m as she placed third with a time of 1:02.20. The 800m saw three Wildcat runners in the top five. Stephanie Ostrenga (2:18.27) led the way with a second-place showing, Heather Bassett (2:19.72) was third and Bibiane Mahy (2:21.36) fifth.
In the 1,500m the ‘Cats had three runners place in the top eight. Brooke Rediger (4:45.41) was third as she was followed by Jennifer Wiedmeyer (5:06.18) in sixth and Maria Grossi (5:10.06) eighth. Brittney Coehoorn (11:05.01) led the ‘Cats in the 3,000m with a second-place showing in the event. Kyle Richards (11:20.50) was next in the event and Grossi (11:28.72) was fifth.
Danielle Stein (20:03.61) and Danielle deJonge (23:05.41) were second and fifth respectively in the 5,000m. Bertucci was the lone NMU runner in the 100m hurdles as she crossed the finish line with a time of 15.93, which was good for fifth place. Erin VanEnkevort (1:10.01) and Leslie Luehmann (1:12.55) ran to fifth and sixth place finishes respectively in the 400m hurdles.
The 4×100 relay was disqualified while the 4×400 relay was second. On the second-place relay with a time of 4:08.19 were Hendershot, Heather Bassett, Mahy and Ostrenga.
Bertucci and Kristin Carnel tied for second place in the high jump. Both had a leap of 5-3 3/4 which is a new NMU record. Stephanie Mishica (4-10) and Molly McIntyre (4-10) tied for seventh.
Paris Malin picked up a win in the pole vault. Malin had a vault of 10-0 which tied a school record. Karin Diebold was third (9-6).
Picking up another win in a field event was St. Onge, in the long jump. St. Onge had a jump of 17-8 5/8, which was good enough for a new school record. Mishica was third (15-4).
Carnel led the NMU contingent in the triple jump with a win in the event. Carnel had a jump of 35-2 3/4 to take the event. St. Onge (34-5 1?2) and Leslie Luehmann (33-11) were third and fourth respectively.
Krista Squiers won the javelin with a throw of 124-11 1/4, with a throw of 120-10 in the discus was third and was sixth (133-8 3/4) in the hammer, for a school record. Also competing in the javelin were Malin (100-2 3/4), Boik (96-9) and Carnel (92-6 1/2).
This week the squad will be split as some of the student-athletes will be at the Gina Relay at Hillsdale College, while other will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
