UNITED IN DANCE

Northern Michigan University hosted its second annual “United Conference: Uniting Neighbors in the Spirit of Diversity” earlier this week.

This year, the conference was split into five different tracks: United in Diversity, United in Film, United in Art, United in Food and United in Dance.

The conference was free for members of the local community as well as NMU faculty, staff and students.

The conference events took place in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center from Sunday, Sept. 23 through Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The United in Dance track consisted of four different types of dance performances, each of which were from a different culture.

Workshops were offered in the art of traditional West African dances as well as Latin dances.

The history of traditional Native American dances was taught along with the demonstration of the dances.

Mexican dances were also performed throughout the three-day conference.
