Author visits Northern’s Campus
October 11, 2007
Students have the opportunity to meet acclaimed lyric essayist, poet, and nonfiction writer John D’Agata on Oct. 18. Rebecca Johns-Trissler, assistant English professor, said that D’Agata will mix the poetry and lyric essay genres into a hybrid
form that highlights the strengths of each. D’Agata is known for his collecting and editing of the anthology “The Next American Essay,” which was published in 2002. He is an editor for the “Seneca Review” as well as an English professor at the University of Iowa. His book, “Halls of Fame,” will be for sale during the reading. Students are strongly urged to attend since this will be D’Agata’s only stop in the Upper Peninsula. It is free to the public, and is sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts program in NMU’s English department as well as “Passages North” literary magazine. D’Agata’s question and answer session will be held at the Huron Room of the University Center at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. “He’s young, he’s hip, he’s fresh,” said Johns-Trissler. “Come see him, you won’t be disappointed.”
