Students learn how to volunteer

On Nov. 15, the NMU Volunteer Center will host a Skill Builder titled “Volunteering Isn’t Just for Student Organizations.” Nicole Weber, assistant coordinator for the Volunteer Center, said the purpose of the event is to try and make students aware and excited about the various volunteer opportunities available on NMU’s campus. Weber added that most students are unaware of these opportunities, and the upcoming Skill Builder will highlight the many chances students have to volunteer in Marquette. Another goal of the Skill Builder is to match student organizations with businesses or associations outside campus that share similar aspirations, Weber added. For example, pre-med students may be matched up with the Blood Center or Marquette Medical in order to give the students accessible volunteer opportunities. For every interest a student has, there is a similar volunteer opportunity available in Marquette, Weber said. The Skill Builder will be held in the Back Room of the University Center from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free to all students who have registered by visiting the Student Leader Fellowship Program office at 1206 University Center or by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 227-1771.
