NMU men bump winning streak to three games

The NMU men’s basketball team extended their winning streak to three games, beating the Ferris State Bulldogs by a score of 71-57.

The Wildcats (5-13 overall, 5-5 GLIAC) were led by senior Jake Suardini who scored a game-high 24 points. Suardini scored a career-high 32 points in last Sunday’s win over Hillsdale.

The ‘Cats took control of the game with just over 12 minutes left in the first half, when junior Tyler Kazmierkoski and sophomore Jerard Ajami connected on four straight three pointers to give NMU a 16 point lead.

Ajami and Kazmierkoski both scored in double figures, with 20 and 18 points respectively. Kazmierkoski added nine rebounds for the ‘Cats.

Northern has won four of their last five games and they have planted themselves in the middle of a heated playoff race in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division. The Wildcats entered the game tied with Michigan Tech for the third seed and held a half-game lead over Ferris State for the 4th.

NMU is back in action this Saturday when they take on the Findlay Oilers. The Wildcats will have their hands full with the Oilers (15-3 overall, 5-3 GLIAC), who are currently ranked 11th in the National Association of Basketball Coaches D-II poll.

The game takes place at 1:00 p.m. in the Berry Events Center. This Saturday is Family Day at the Berry Events Center; adults bringing a child in eighth grade or younger receive free admission for themselves and the child.
