Seniors end on high note honoring Senior Day

Five players were recognized in pregame ceremonies for the Wildcats as seniors guards Kellie Reitveld, Steffani Stoeger and Callie Youngman and centers Jackie Davey and Erin Powers took the Berry Events Center court for the last time in their careers.

“It was pretty awesome,” Stoeger said. “We owe it to our teammates for getting a couple of wins this weekend.”

Stoeger is a four-time -letter winner for the Wildcats. She was selected to the GLIAC North All-Conference Second team last year, as well as preseason GLIAC North All-Conference First team this year. Her 25-point performance against Ashland was three points behind her career high of 28, scored last season against Northwood on Dec. 3.

Reitveld started every game this season for the Wildcats. She won the defensive player of the year award last season and has 198 points this season.

Youngman has been a journeyman of Wildcats athletics, starting off on the volleyball team from 2006-08. She joined the basketball team for the 2009-2010 season and has played in 14 games this season.

Davey started her career at Sauk Valley Community College (Ill.) where she was named the NJCAA Region 4 MVO in 2008. The six-foot-one center was known for her offensive moves in the post, averaging four ppg this season.

Powers is the only Upper Peninsula player on the roster, coming from the Marquette Redettes. Powers is currently fourth in the conference in free throw percentage and had her first double-double earlier this season. She also leads the team in rebounds with 5.5 a game.

Christa Erickson, a guard who played on last year’s NCAA tournament team, was also recognized. Erickson appealed for an extra year of eligibility after her senior season, but was denied during the summer.
