About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Skier earns All-American recognition

Andy Liebner earned All-American status and was the top finisher for Northern Michigan in the men’s 10k freestyle race at NCAA Nationals at the Trapp Family Lodge.

Liebner finished ninth with a time of 26:45.1. Erik Soderman was 10 spots back at 19th (27:14.1). Martin Banerud finished 33rd (27:54.5) to round out the NMU men’s finishers. The men’s team finished seventh out of 17 schools with 59 points Marie Helen Soderman was the top finisher on the women’s side for NMU. She finished 21st in the 5k freestyle race with a time of 15:16.0. Christina Turman wasn’t far behind in 27th place (15:26.1) and Monica Markvardsen

was 36th (15:50.2) for the Wildcats. The women’s team finished ninth out of 18 teams with 36 points.

Racing gets underway again on Friday (March 11) with the women’s 15k classic at 9:30 a.m. The men’s 20k classic will get going at 11:30 a.m.
