The women’s soccer team is searching their first win of the season when they travel to Ohio to take on a pair of GLIAC opponents this weekend.
NMU is 0-5 on the season, but has only lost one game by more than a single goal.
Last weekend, the ’Cats dropped a 2-1 overtime match to the Ashland University Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 20 in Marquette.
“I thought we played a quality team today and played well enough to get a win,” head coach Matt Granstrand said in a press release.
“It will come, and we will keep training hard until we see our luck turn.”
Sophomore midfielder Abby Cook scored at 7:21 in the first to tie the game at one-goal apiece.
The game would lead to overtime, where Ashland’s freshman midfielder Deijah Swihart scored a goal on the right post to give her Eagles the win.
Despite the Wildcats dropping their first five games, their loss to Ashland was the team’s first conference loss of the season.
The Wildcats will take on the Ohio Dominican University Panthers at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 in Columbus, Ohio.
The Panthers are 3-3 on the season, and are coming of a 1-0 win over Saginaw Valley State as well as a 5-0 win over Northwood University this past weekend. Sophomore forward Ashley Blake and senior midfielder Lauren Pratt each have two goals for the Panthers.
Friday will be Ohio Dominican’s home opener for the 2015 season.
The Wildcats will conclude their weekend road trip with a visit to the Walsh University Cavaliers at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27 in North Canton, Ohio.
The Cavaliers are 2-3-2 through their first seven games, and are winless in their last three matches.
Walsh is undefeated in home play this season with a 2-0-1 record.
Walsh head coach David Renard said he expects a competitive battle on Sunday.
“There hasn’t been a more evenly matched game for us than Northern Michigan throughout the years,” Renard said.
“Each game has been extremely tight and decided by one goal or a tie. I think both teams are better than their record indicates at this point in the season so It will be an important game for both teams to get off on the right foot.”
