Letter to the Editor

To the Editor of the North Wind:

As part of ongoing campus discussions relating to the financial situation at Northern, the NMU AAUP Executive Committee has recently posted a position paper on its website, “The Windfall and the ‘Budget Crisis,’” as well as a related report entitled “The Mysteries of the MPSERS Monies” (http://50.87.248.207/~nmuaaupo/).

We are concerned about the continuing lack of clarity about “necessary budget reductions” in regard to both implementation and impact.

We are currently monitoring class availability and staffing requirements and an analysis will be forthcoming.

We encourage members of the campus community to review this position statement, provide comments, watch for additional postings, and engage in ongoing discussions about budget priorities.

Respectfully,

Rebecca J. Mead, Ph.D.

President, NMU AAUP
