Letter to the editor- campus housing

Dear Editor,

It looks like a small number of off-campus houses are about to be replaced by an apartment complex. While the old A-frames are seemingly ancient, they are affordable and convenient to campus.

The architect of the proposed buildings, Barry Polzin, lamented the horrible lack of off-campus student housing.

He then went on about the long list of amenities that will be included in the new apartments, including hot tub, fitness center and bike repair shop. I’m sure they will be wonderful—for anyone that can afford such luxuries. Most students I’ve talked with are just looking for clean and comfortable housing that won’t add to their already out of control college expenses.

Students in Marquette face either being squeezed by ever increasing on-campus housing costs or the lack of reasonable, decent off-campus choices.
