About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Athletics

Eighty Northern Michigan University student-athletes were named to the 2017 GLIAC and All-Academic Excellence teams. The football team led the varsity programs with 23 total honorees. They were followed by cross country with 20, men’s soccer with 13 and women’s soccer and volleyball with 12. Fifty-five student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Excellence team, including 18 for women’s cross country. Football and women’s soccer each had 11 honorees. A total of 921 student-athletes were recognized by the GLIAC for their work in the classroom.
