About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Ian Torchia became the seventh NCAA Champion in Wildcat Nordic skiing history after being the first skier to cross the finish line Saturday afternoon in the 20-kilometer freestyle race. In ironic fashion, he drew bib number one prior to the start of the race and would end up finishing first. Torchia crossed the finish line with a time of 54 minutes, 21 seconds to earn the NCAA crown.
