About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

The NMU Men’s Golf team competed at the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invitational in Georgetown, Kentucky this past weekend, and the team tied a school record with a final score of 586 at the 36-hole event.

Junior Kurtis Fontinha led the ’Cats as he shot a 71 in both rounds, good enough for a total of 142 and finished with a tie for 12th place. Senior Austin Elsner tied for 23rd place with a final score of 145, and rounds of 72 and 73, respectively.

Senior Logan Haight finished with a score of 149, good enough for a tie for 51st place after totaling two rounds of 77 and 72. Senior Owen Beyer shot two rounds of 74 and 78, which put him at a final score of 152, as well as in a tie for 74th. Junior Chris Black finished things off for the Wildcats, as he went on to place tied for 92nd, and shoot a 155 with two rounds of 79 and 76. His final score of 155 gave NMU a total of 586, which tied a school record.

The team finished in 10th place overall out of 21 teams, and third among GLIAC schools. The team traveled back to Kentucky to compete this past Monday and Tuesday in the Findlay Spring Invitational. The Wildcats will then be traveling to Noblesville, Indiana next weekend to compete in the Midwest Regional at Purgatory Golf Course.
