Geologists rockin’ it out

Geologists+rockin+it+out

The Rock and Mineral Club is just a stone’s throw away. Founded in 2004, the club meets in the Lydia M. Olson Library once a week. Their topic of conversation is, of course, rocks and minerals. Club President Iris Pacelt believes that the group can provide students with hands on experience in geology.

“Geology is so much more than the rocks in your backyard, and as a club we open people’s eyes to the sheer awesomeness that is geology,” Pacelt said.

The club teaches its members to identify rocks, and members explore interesting locales around Marquette, the Keeweenaw Peninsula and Alger County. The group has events planned for the future, including a camping trip in the fall.

Pacelt encourages anyone with even a slight interest in geology to join the club, regardless of their major.
