The NMU women’s track and field team competed at the Sherman-Lukoski Invitational which was held at Ripon College on Saturday. The event was the Wildcats’ first competition of the spring. In the team race the ‘Cats tallied 238 points to take the team title over Carroll (138). A total of eight teams were at the event.

Danielle St. Onge ran a 13.03 in the 100-meter dash which was good for a second-place finish in the event. Callie Boik (13.39) and Vanessa Anderson (13.68) were fourth and eighth respectively.

NMU had three of the top five spots in the 200, as Stephanie Boyer won the event with a time of 26.20. St. Onge (27.01) was third and Boik (27.59), fifth. Boyer then took the 400 with a time of 59.81.

In the 800 the ‘Cats had four runners in the top 10. Stephanie Ostrenga led the way with a third-place showing in the event with a time of 2:22.96 with teammate Heather Bassett next with a 2:23.17. Melissa Schultz (2:30.91) in sixth and Maegan Hendershot (2:35.92) ninth were the final two ‘Cats in the top 10.

The 1,500 saw the ‘Cats score some big team points. NMU had three of the top six places in the event. Brooke Rediger was the top ‘Cat in the event with a time of 5:02.45, which was good for second. Erin VanEnkevort (5:08.23) and Jennifer Wiedmeyer (5:11.63) were fourth and sixth.

Danielle Stein was the only ‘Cat runner in the top eight in the 5,000 and placed third with a time of 19:18.92. Tasha Kettula was the only NMU runner in the 10,000 and was third (47:24.41).

Both relays won their events. The 4×100 relay of Bertucci, Boyer, Boik and St. Onge ran a 50.46. In the 4×400 event the relay of Boyer, Rediger, Ostrenga and Schultz ran a 4:18.72.

The field events saw Kristin Carnel (5-02.25) capture the high jump with fellow ‘Cats, Bertucci (5-00.25) fourth and Stephanie Mishica (4-06.25) seventh. Paris Malin was the top placing ‘Cat in the pole vault as she had a height of 9-06.25 which was good for a tie for third place. Karin Diebold (8-06.25) was fifth in the event. Luehmann with a leap of 15-04.25 was third in the long jump. In Carnel’s next event which was the triple jump she placed second (33-04.75). Krista Squires was the lone ‘Cat scoring points for the team in the shot put as she was fifth (36-00.75). Squires won the discus with a throw of 122-11.

NMU also had five athletes in the top eight in the javelin.

The l’Cats have the weekend off and will compete next at the Saginaw Valley State University Invitational on April 14.
