About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Men’s golf team garners two top-10 finishes in Ohio invites

The NMU men’s golf team competed at the Ashland and Findlay Invitationals over the past weekend. At Ashland the Wildcats shot a 688 (348-340) for the two rounds, which was good for ninth place out of nine squads. Ferris State took team honors with a 596 (300-296).

At the Findlay event the ‘Cats shot a 676 (329-347) which gave the team a 10th place showing out of 10 teams. Grand Valley State captured team honors with a 616 (305-311).

Neil Passinault led the ‘Cats at Ashland with a tie for 29th. He shot a 157 (77-80) for the two rounds. Robert Desimone shot a 171 (87-84), which placed him 59th. Luke Thode shot a 174 (91-83) which was good for 60th, while Curt Heribakka had a card of 186 (93-93) which gave him a 65th place showing.

Thode led the charge at the Findlay Country Club with a 163 (79-84) as he tied for 35th. Desimone tied for 43rd with a 164 (80-84). The next two ‘Cats were Passinault in 49th with a 166 (80-86) and Heribakka in 65th with a 183 (90-93).

The team will conclude the 2006-07 schedule this weekend at the NCAA II Regional III in Edinburgh, Ind.
