Students curious about exploring a new major can attend the Major Expo hosted by the Academic and Career Advisement Center at the Lydia M. Olson Library today, Oct. 19, from noon to 3 p.m.

Attendees can connect with faculty, adviser and upperclassman student representatives from each department to learn more about specific majors, their expectations and what they have to offer in terms of internship opportunities and career outlook.

Students get the opportunity to walk around and hear some different experiences from faculty, staff and students, and get the chance to ask questions about degree planning, said Brittanie Barry, coordinator of academic support services at the ACAC.

“Students have the opportunity to not only talk to faculty, but some others that have a hand in play – deciding on their major and then also just bridging that gap between a major and then a career,” Barry said.

All college students, no matter the year, are invited to check out the Major Expo and are encouraged to speak with different faculty, students or advisers about one of the 180 different majors and multitude of minors NMU has to offer.

“This is a great opportunity for freshmen who are undeclared and need help picking a major and sophomores that may be in between majors and are looking to confirm their major after this year,” Barry said. “Juniors and seniors can talk with local businesses that are going to be at the expo if they’re looking to stick around after they graduate.”
