WINTER FAIR – The Winter Student Organization Fair gives student organizations an opportunity to share their clubs with other students and recruit new members.

The Winter Student Organization Fair was hosted by the Center for Student Enrichment this past Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of Jamrich.

The event was an opportunity for students to discover organizations that interest them, find ways to get involved, or just to collect a mystery prize and grab a cookie on their way to class. Close to 40 student groups were represented.

These events are especially helpful for freshmen or those new to NMU, like Christine Astroski. Astroski transferred from Saginaw Valley State University this semester and came to the fair to get involved. She is considering joining several organizations, including the Students’ Art Gallery.

Nichole Sandoval, coordinator of the Center for Student Enrichment, organized the event and was excited to see the student engagement.

“A lot of student orgs get a chance to actually meet each other, and meet officers of other groups, so there are a lot of chances to collaborate on events and do fun things together,” Sandoval said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of student organizations dropped to less than 100. This year, it is back to 215 and Sandoval hopes that it increases to 300 in the future.

All recognized student organizations can be found on The Hub.
